Chosen as the sole winner of the Frontier AI Grand Challenge, the Domyn-led Europa consortium will build Europe's frontier AI model.

Milan, London & Brussels, June 19th 2026 - Domyn, the European leader in sovereign AI for highly regulated industries, today announced the appointments of Lauren Evans as Chief Marketing Officer, Daniel Gueorguiev as Head of Institutional Affairs, and Sara Riggi as Senior Vice President of People.

The Europa project will develop a frontier open-source artificial intelligence model designed to support all 24 official languages of the European Union, with the aim of making next-generation AI technologies accessible to European businesses, researchers, public institutions and developers.

The competition, launched by the European Commission in February 2026, challenged participants to develop a frontier AI system exceeding 400 billion parameters — a scale associated with some of the most advanced models in development globally. Following a Europe-wide selection process, the Europa consortium, led by Domyn, was chosen as the winning proposal.

As part of the award, the Europa consortium will receive access to up to 2.5% of the entire EuroHPC supercomputing capacity for one year, one of the largest allocations of AI computing resources ever granted by the European Union.

The project will help strengthen Europe's industrial and scientific capacity in advanced artificial intelligence while supporting all 24 official EU languages. By combining frontier-scale AI with an open-source approach, Europa aims to expand access to advanced AI technologies for businesses, researchers, developers and public institutions across the continent.

"This is a defining moment for European AI," said Uljan Sharka, CEO and Founder of Domyn.

"The European Commission set out to identify a single consortium capable of building a frontier AI model for Europe, and we are proud that Europa was selected.

This project demonstrates that Europe can develop, control and continuously advance its own frontier AI capabilities. By building an open model across all 24 EU languages, we have an opportunity to create AI infrastructure that reflects Europe's knowledge, languages and values while remaining accessible to businesses, researchers, developers and public institutions across the continent.

For Domyn, this places us among a small group of organisations globally with the capability to build frontier-scale AI systems. The model itself is important, but even more important is developing the expertise, infrastructure and scientific capability required to deliver it. That capability will help shape the future of European AI for years to come."

Henna Virkkunen, Executive Vice-President for Technological Sovereignty, Security and Democracy at the European Commission, stated: "Europe can lead advanced AI on its own terms. EUROPA will build a European frontier model in all 24 EU languages, demonstrating that we can compete with the best while staying true to our values. This is about strengthening Europe's capacity to shape the future of AI with openness, trust, and strategic autonomy at its core."

Through the Europa project, Domyn reinforces its commitment to developing sovereign, transparent and governable AI systems, while also contributing to the creation of a stronger and more competitive European AI ecosystem.
